No stuck filter is too tight for this wrench to remove it. The tighter it is stuck the tighter the wrench grabs it.

5 out of 5 stars Lisle Adjustable Oil Filter Wrench   June 4, 2009

I purchased this item based on the recommendation of another review...spot on for its performance and "deep" enough to get a good grip. In my situation, a JD 110 tractor I needed to replace a fuel filter that is similar to an oil filter...very confined space and no room to work a strap wrench...a very poor design on JD's part...couldn't find a cup-type wrench for the odd size...I tried a 3-leg cheapie wrench from an auto parts store...piece of junk and tossed it...this Lisle tool works perfectly...as the other reviewer stated, the more you work it the tighter it grips the filter...sure enough it started to move and I was able to change the filter...in my application, due to space limitations very difficult to hand tighten, so I wish it could be used in reverse to snug up the filter but this is not what the design is intended for...OK on that.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Oil Filter Wrench   December 31, 2009

I purchased this wrench and the similar Lisle Import Oil Filter wrench (for smaller filters). I can report that they are both well made, and they both work really well at removing stuck-on oil filters where you only have an "end view" of the filter.
Here are some specific likes:
1) The two jaws, each with two biting "teeth", grip the filters tightly. I put my "three finger" style wrenches (which don't grip nearly as well)into the recycling bin after using this wrench for the first time.
2) The jaws are spring loaded, which holds the wrench in place on the filter while you get in position to turn the ratchet. A nice feature.
3) The harder you turn, the tighter it grips. You may dent the end of the filter a little, but the filter will break free.
4) Between the two wrenches, they cover every size from small lawn tractor filters up through automotive and truck (F350 etc)filters. You don't need a large collection of "cup style" filters. I put a few of these in the recycling bin as well after using this wrench for the first time.

Lisle has solved the oil filter removal issue with these wrenches.

5 out of 5 stars Works as advertised   August 30, 2008

Doing my own oil changes for the past thirty years or more, I started out using the typical metal band wrench and that served me well for years. As things got more crowded underhood, though, that became more and more difficult to fit in there and then still have enough room to turn it. I tried those "cup" wrenches which grip the end of the filter and those work well, but you end up with a mess of them because it seems like every vehicle you work on has a different diameter oil filter.

On a recommendation, I tried the Lisle model out. Like the "cup" wrenches, it grabs the end of the filter so it is usually pretty easy to get the wrench, extension, and a socket handle in to it. I have this one and the import model and those two cover everything I own in two models instead of a half dozen of the cup wrenches.

I got lazy this winter and took my car to the local oil change place. Little did I know that they were going to use an impact wrench to put my oil filter back on. After scraping my knuckles for a half an hour since none of the wrench's I owned had enough clearence to attempt to take off the filter on my Ford Explorer, I saw the reviews on Amazon and went to my local car parts shop where I bought this wrench and had my filter off in 30 seconds. This is the best filter wrench I've ever owned. Thanks again fellow reviewers and Lisle for making a quality product.
